Wargaming Operational Analyst - Matrix Pro Services x 3

Posted: Aug 20, 2026

NOTE - You MUST be a UK citizen, with only UK citizenship and a UK security clearance.

Matrix Pro Services is a newly formed company setup to deliver services in support of Matrix Pro Sims software. While the Matrix Pro Sims team focus on building great software tools like Command, the Matrix Pro Services team takes that software and helps the users to get the most out of it through training, education and analysis. Our core purpose is simple yet vital: to keep the warfighter safe and save the taxpayer money through the application of Wargaming and Operational Analysis. Matrix Pro Services are looking for 3 Wargaming OA's to join their team.

As a Wargaming Operational Analyst within Matrix Pro Services, you will be at the forefront of solving complex, high-consequence problems across UK Defence, the National Security sector, and with overseas allies. You will bridge the gap between abstract mathematical modelling and real-world mission success, ensuring stakeholders have the defensible evidence required for critical investment and strategic decisions. Familiarity with professional wargaming tools such as Command Professional Edition, Flashpoint Campaigns, or Combat Mission is a distinct advantage (though not a prerequisite).

You won’t just be crunching numbers; you will be translating data into an authoritative narrative that shapes the future of operational capability.

Our Approach to Experience: We welcome diverse routes into this role, whether your background is military, academic, public sector or an adjacent analytical discipline. Experience with every listed tool is not expected; we are most interested in analytical thinking, communication, intellectual curiosity, and a drive to learn.

Key Responsibilities

Data Analysis & Decision Support: Interrogate large, complex datasets to extract meaningful insights and conduct rigorous analysis to support high-stakes decision-making and strategic planning.

Problem Structuring: Use an analytical mindset to define complex, unstructured issues and develop rigorous methodological approaches to solve them.

Model Development: Design, build, and maintain analytical models and simulations, utilising wargaming tools like Command Professional Edition, Flashpoint Campaigns and Combat Mission to forecast outcomes and evaluate operational trade-offs.

Authoring & Technical Translation: Deliver high-standard, Dstl-style report authoring and technical documentation, communicating complex analytical techniques and conclusions clearly in plain language to non-analysts, senior military leadership, and allied partners.

Collaborative Delivery: Work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing constructive challenge and evidence-based insight.

Mindset & Team Fit

Proactive Attitude: A hands-on mindset with the drive to learn quickly, and operate comfortably in ambiguous, unstructured problem spaces.

Positive Challenge: Willingness to challenge assumptions constructively and collaborate openly across teams.

Growth Mindset: While analytical and technical competencies are important, we place equal value on initiative, pragmatism, and a commitment to delivery. We look for individuals who proactively apply wargaming and operational analysis to achieve tangible outcomes

Essential Requirements

Analytical & Intelligence Rigour: Proven ability to apply analytical techniques to solve tangible, real-world problems, with the structured thinking and evaluative mindset typical of Defence Intelligence or Dstl environments.

Reporting & Communication: Strong Dstl-style technical writing skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into defensible, plain-language evidence for UK Defence and international stakeholders.

Technical Toolkit: Experience using analytical tools and programming languages for model development and data analysis (or the aptitude to learn them rapidly), including:

  • Python or R
  • Advanced Excel, including VBA, for robust tool development and automation
  • Exposure to simulation and wargaming software

Teamwork: Proven ability to collaborate effectively within multi-disciplinary environments.

Academic Foundation: Degree in a STEM discipline (minimum 2:2) or deep, relevant defence/industry experience.

Security Clearance: Must already hold UK SC clearance as a minimum, with the eligibility and ability to obtain and maintain DV and NATO clearances (UK Eyes Only).
